DAY
1 - THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2023 |
|
UPON YOUR ARRIVAL IN TUCSON... |
Earliest
arrivals are encouraged to take this day to explore Southern Arizona's
many amazing attractions on their own. |
![]() ![]() |
Honestly, there is so much to see and
do, you really ought to consider arriving in Tucson a few days
early or perhaps sticking around afterwards. Individual day trips abound, whether they highlight the diversity of our lush desert landscapes or celebrate the living legends of the Wild West! Favorites include the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, Old Bisbee and Tombstone, Arizona (site of the actual OK Corral and Boot Hill Cemetery), Saguaro and Chiricahua National Parks, the one-and-only Biosphere 2, Kartchner Caverns and Colossal Cave, Sabino Canyon Recreation Area, Mount Lemmon Ski Valley (and the Catalina Highway!), the world-class Pima Air & Space Museum and the must-see Titan Missile Museum. Brief, in-town visits can include stops at the Franklin Auto Museum, the Ignite Neon Sign Museum, the Tucson Museum of Art and Old Presidio District, Tucson Botanical Gardens, Old Pueblo Trolley Restoration Barn, the University of Arizona's Flandreau Planetarium, Sentinel Peak, various auto salvage yards, plus great shopping for Southwest keepsakes and souvenirs! For additional ideas, check the Tucson Conventions & Visitors Bureau's website: www.VisitTucson.org |
FINDING US IN
CENTRAL TUCSON |
|
![]() |
Most Roundup events will be held
within a one-square-mile business park area located in Central Tucson
known as Williams Centre. There, you'll find our Host Hotel along with
two overflow hotels and numerous restaurant and shopping options, all within
a safe and easy 3- or 4-block walking distance. You may CLICK on the image at left to bring up a fully searchable Google map of Williams Centre, showing the two overflow hotels and the various nearby restaurants. <--- LEGEND: TP = TownePlace Suites (host hotel); TN = Truly Nolen Event Center (banquets and social hours); CI = Marriott Courtyard Inn; RI = Marriott Residence Inn (both are official overflow hotels). |
HOTEL CHECK-IN and REGISTRATION
PACKETS |
|
![]() ![]() ![]() |
Most hotels allow for guest check-ins
beginning at 3:00pm. We invite you to visit our mobile Registration HQ beginning Thursday afternoon, as early as 1:00pm. Look for our specially-marked Motorhome in the parking lot of our host hotel, the TownePlace Suites at Williams Centre (384 S. Williams Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85711). This will be your first opportunity to pick up your official Roundup Goodie Bag and Event Program, name badge(s), pre-ordered meal & beverage tickets, pre-ordered Roundup T-Shirts, etc. NOTE 1: This is a PRE-REGISTRATION-ONLY event, meaning that we will NOT accept any new registrations onsite. If you show up here hoping to participate without advance pre-registration, you're going to be out of luck! If you are delayed or need special assistance, please contact Roundup Registrar Randy Rogers at (520) 298-6874 or email: rancai67@yahoo.com NOTE 2: Only a handful of ADDITIONAL Roundup T-shirts will be produced and available to purchase at the event, first-come-first-served, so after they've been sold, that's it. Avoid disappointments by ordering all your T-shirts in advance on the official Roundup Pre-Registration Form. NOTE 3: While at our Mobile Registration HQ, be sure to review all contents of your Goodie Bag. Please ensure that all of your pre-ordered meal & beverage tickets are found inside. You'll need these items for entry to our various meal functions, including that evening's Mixer event at the car museum (see below). The mobile Roundup Registration HQ will "close" around 4:00pm so that we can drive this motorhome to where our first event takes place later that evening. See "Welcome Night Mixer" below for details. |
CAR WASH AREA |
|
Available on Thursday, Friday and
early Saturday morning, our designated Car Wash area can be found
on the north side of the host hotel building. A hose only will be provided.
Please bring your own cleaning supplies, bucket, rags and towels. Please
do NOT use hotel towels to clean your vehicle. If instead you prefer
to use a coin-op car wash, our Registration Desk personnel can suggest
nearby options, including 5260 E. 22nd Street (less than two miles from
Williams Centre). |

WELCOME NIGHT
MIXER Presented by Hagerty Insurance |
|
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The first official Roundup event
will be extra-special as we celebrate the grand opening of the all-new
Rolling Thru Time Classic Auto Museum! Roundup participants are asked to arrive at the museum (using their own transportation) no earlier than 5:30pm for our Welcome Night Mixer Presented by Hagerty Insurance. At that time, our mobile Roundup Registration HQ (motorhome) will have relocated to the museum's front door, allowing any participant who has not yet picked up their official Goodie Bag and Registration Packet to do so. Your name badge and Thursday Evening Welcome Mixer meal/beverage ticket(s) will be needed to enter the museum and to participate in any of our indoor activities that evening. NOTE 1: This museum is so NEW that it isn't yet listed on Google Maps! It is located in South Tucson at 4750 S. Park Avenue, Tucson 85714 (between Ajo Way and Irvington Road; a printed map to the site will be available earlier in the day at the Registration HQ. Also, you may CLICK on the map image at left to reveal a searchable Google map. NOTE 2: There is no rush to arrive right at 5:30pm, but please allow time to pick up your Registration Packet at the front door before heading inside. See schedule and helpful TIP below. TIP: Once you've picked up your Goodie Bag (Registration Packet) from the mobile Roundup Registration HQ at the museum, extract your Thursday Night meal/beverage ticket(s) before taking the rest of your Registration Packet back to your car for safekeeping for the remainder of the evening. There is no need to bring your entire Packet inside the museum with you. Our Welcome Night Mixer Presented by Hagerty Insurance encourages you to leisurely stroll through the museum's many exhibits as early as 5:30pm. Later, listen for the announcement for when our Pizza Buffet is ready to be served (approximately 7:00pm). Don't forget: Inside your Registration Packet, you will be provided with a ticket redeemable for a single beverage; additional beverages will be available for purchase onsite. Following some brief welcoming remarks, the first Roundup Seminar will be introduced for attendees to enjoy at no cost. The actual presenter and topic of this and all six event Seminars can be found under the SEMINAR tab on the home page. All events at the museum will wrap-up at around 9:30-10:00pm, at which time you can return to your hotel or other overnight accommodations. |

including 1:25, 1:24 and larger scales only (no diecast models, please). To submit your model(s) for judging, upon admittance to the museum, please make contact with Model Contest Coordinator Peter Santini. He will get you and your model(s) checked-in and registered. If you have questions about the contest rules, you may phone him at (520) 250-9696. Judging for our contest will be handled by the Sonoran Desert Model Builders Club. The first of our two consecutive

THE POCI SPIRIT CONTEST |
|
![]() |
An over-the-top fun feature at the
Friday Night Social Hour will be our POCI SPIRIT CONTEST. We urge
all POCI members to participate, free of charge. So, what's involved?
Simply wear as many POCI, Pontiac, Oakland and/or GMC Truck-related items
as you possibly can. This includes wearing T-shirts, jackets, belt buckles,
multiple hats and anything else you can wear that promotes our three vehicle
brands and/or the club itself. We'll award two CASH PRIZES for those wearing and showing the most spirit. Get creative and have fun! The Spirit Contest will be held outdoors in the courtyard (weather permitting), shortly before 7:00pm. |
THE FRIDAY POCI "FUN NIGHT" BANQUET |
|
![]() |
Following the POCI Spirit Contest,
all those who hold Friday Fun Night Banquet tickets will be invited inside
the T-N Event Center for the first of our two Roundup evening dinner
productions. This evening's festivities will begin shortly after 7pm
inside the Truly Nolen Event Center (adjacent to the host hotel). Remember, you'll need your meal ticket to enter the Event Center. Upon entering, please select your table and seat. Individual table groups will be randomly called to head over to the buffet service line shortly thereafter. Tonight's menu offers a "South of the Border" Mexican theme. Please, as a courtesy to all, limit your food portions in your first trip through the buffet line until all have been served. Afterwards, you may head back for second helpings. |
SILENT AUCTION PREVIEW #1 |
|

During the POCI Fun Night Banquet,
attendees will have their first opportunity to view and place bids on
the many goods and services that have been donated to our Silent Auction.
These items will be on display inside the Event Center, each with an accompanying

FRIDAY V.I.P. GUEST SPEAKER |
|
![]() |
Following dinner, we'll have a few
brief remarks and presentations before introducing our featured guest
speaker, Mr. Tim Dye, director the Pontiac Museums (Illinois and
Michigan) and editor of POCI's Smoke Signals magazine. Although
Tim has spoken numerous times at international POCI, GTOAA and other gatherings,
tonight marks his first-ever Western Region appearance. His "Musings
from the Museum" promises to be fun and fresh, offering entertaining
adventures associated with his lifelong obsession as an extreme collector
of POCI cars, parts and memorabilia. Let there be no doubt that Tim's
fascinating stories will fully bolster your pride and enjoyment of our
shared hobby. Don't miss it! NOTE: Entry to our banquet programs is by advance ticket purchase only, and you must be Pre-Registered to order these tickets. Spaces are limited. |
DAY 3 - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2023 |
|
IT'S SHOWTIME! |
Today
is highlighted by the Popular Vote Car Show, the first Western Region
POCI Show to be held in nearly 10 years! |
CAR SHOW CLASSES |
|
All registered show vehicles will be
assigned a Popular Vote Class* prior to entering the show field on Saturday
morning. These Classes will have been pre-determined by the Car Show
Chairman based solely upon information gathered from all Pre-Registration
Forms; some last-minute changes to class composition are inevitable once
all vehicles have arrived at the show site. Thank you for your patience
and cooperation! The Car Show hours will be from 9:00am - 1:00pm. Watch this space for further car show rules, procedures and other details. NOTE 1: Due to manpower requirements and POCI database compatibility issues, we are unable to offer a "Points-Judged" facet to this event; all judging will be handled by registered participants using a Popular Vote format. NOTE 2: In addition to the yet-to-be-determined Popular Vote Class names, an "In Progress" Class welcomes entries that are in the midst of an active, fresh restoration or custom build. Such entries may be described as incomplete vehicles which may or may not be currently roadworthy and/or are missing important facets, such as engine, driveline, body panels, interior and/or trim. This category is NOT meant for vehicles that are in a long-term or stalled restoration that can otherwise be used as daily transportation. (Those vehicles may be better suited as Road Warrior Class entries (see below) or in the regular Class Judging categories.) *NOTE 3: The "Road Warrior" Class is for attendees who wish to display their Pontiac, Oakland or GMC Truck on the show field but DO NOT want their vehicle to be judged. These entries may be daily-driver vehicles in any condition or cosmetically challenged vehicles. These vehicles will be marked "for display only" and will not be eligible for awards. Please indicate this preference on your Pre-Reg form. |
|
CAR SHOW DISPLAY RULES |
|
Watch this space for clarifications
regarding Car Show display rules, including HOW your vehicle may be displayed,
and WHAT accompanying items are permissible before, during, or after the
judging period. |
|
JUDGING PROCEDURES |
|
The Car Show offers Popular Vote
judging, urging all registered attendees to assist with this task.A ballot
will be found inside your Goodie Bag. Watch this space for an announcement
regarding the balloting period (hours) and ballot box location, etc. |
|
PARTS SWAP MEET & VENDORS |
|
![]() |
Our POCI Swap Meet encourages members
and enthusiasts to offer new or used car parts, memorabilia and automotive
services that would be of interest to POCI and general automotive enthusiasts.
A simple $10 fee offers as much space as desired within the Swap Meet area.
(This fee is waived for any vendor who pre-purchases advertising space in
our Roundup Event Agenda Program (ad space final deadline: October 17th),
or who has otherwise donated a Silent Auction item valued at $100 or more.)
The Swap and Vendor spaces will only be available on Saturday, November 4, 2023 within or adjacent to the Car Show area. To learn more about the Swap Meet, contact Swap Meet Coordinator Bill Speer at (520) 490-9097 or speerclassicauto@msn.com. |
SILENT AUCTION PREVIEW #2 |

services that have been donated to our Silent Auction. Tables will be set
up on the show field to display these items along with an accompanying bidding

LADIES LUNCHEON with Special Speaker
and Classic Bus Ride! |
|
![]() TRANSPORTATION TO THE
LADIES LUNCHEON PROVIDED BY THE OLD PUEBLO TROLLEY COMPANY. ![]() ![]() |
Our Ladies Luncheon program offers
the gals a fun diversion from the Car Show with an oh-so-fun CLASSIC bus
ride to The Hungry Fox Diner plus a truly amazing guest speaker. In 1948, a 12-year-young Carol Knight experienced a most remarkable adventure that began when her family sought to leave their remote hometown of Eagle, Alaska, by floating down the Yukon River in a 1926 Oakland that her father had converted into a paddle boat! Carol's amazing story will be personally narrated by her as she shares original family photos and even a home movie that captures the absurd-but-true journey! (CLICK on the video link below to watch her family's brief home movie!) NOTE 1: The Hungry Fox offers a semi-private room for our program where attendees are asked to individually order from the menu. Each individual meal, plus tip, shouldn't be more than $20 per person. Each participant is responsible for her own meal cost. CASH is preferred, and is to be paid at the venue. NOTE 2: The ride to the restaurant and back will be just as fun! We've made special arrangements for some truly CLASSIC transportation in the form of a fully restored 1938 Yellow/GMC Coach city bus, courtesy of the Old Pueblo Trolley Company! NOTE 3: The exact time and location for BOARDING this classic Pontiac, Michigan-built bus will be announced during the Friday Night POCI Fun Night Banquet. Watch this space for details. NOTE 4: RESERVATIONS for this event may be limited and are on a first-come-first-served basis. Make your reservations in advance through the Pre-Registration Form. |
SATURDAY SEMINARS |
|
A total of TWO Seminars to be held
following the conclusion of the Car Show — both of which are free and
open to registered Roundup participants. The exact topics and presenters of these Seminars are now posted here under the SEMINAR Tab on the home page. These two Saturday-only Seminars will be held in the Truly Nolen BOARD ROOM (accessible from Truly Nolen's inner courtyard area). |

SILENT AUCTION CONCLUSION |
|

SATURDAY V.I.P. BANQUET SPEAKER |
|
![]() |
Simply put, tonight's pre-awards
program promises to be memorable. Our very special speaker's actual identity
is being kept a secret, intended to be a delightful surprise as
an individual who brings a story that will fully resonate with our POCI
audience while reinforcing our common goal of strengthening the younger
generation's interest in our hobby. This speaker's presentation will precede the evening's Car Show Awards ceremony. NOTE: Entry to our banquet programs is by advance ticket purchase only, and you must be Pre-Registered to order these tickets. Spaces are limited. Please read the important note below. |
AN IMPORTANT NOTE FOR NON-TICKET HOLDERS (SPECTATORS) WHO WANT TO ATTEND EITHER OF OUR TWO EVENING PRESENTATIONS |
|
As with any large-scale gathering
such as the Roundup, we must work within the parameters and limitations
of the event facilities that we have contracted. This includes the Roundup's
selection of the Truly Nolen Event Center for the site of our Friday and
Saturday Banquets. The hosting Arizona Chapter #29 has certain expenses involved with renting this first-class facility, so it is only fair that we must build those costs into our meal ticket prices. Additionally — and most importantly — we must observe the legal capacity limits of this banquet facility, as determined and monitored by the local Fire Marshal. Given these concerns, AND knowing that we may come close to exceeding the room's capacity limits, we must give ADMISSION PRIORITY to those who have pre-ordered banquet tickets on a first-come-first-serve basis. PLEASE UNDERSTAND: Only if the room capacity limit has NOT been reached through the sale of banquet tickets will we allow admittance of any non-ticket-holding spectators on either night FOLLOWING THE DINING SEGMENTS of the banquets. A sign-up list for spectator slots will be available at the mobile Roundup Registration HQ. If we do indeed max-out the room's capacity through pre-sales, no additional spectators can be permitted indoors. This includes those only wanting to attend the Car Show Awards presentation; they must wait outdoors in the courtyard. Watch this space for any news or announcements. |
|
DAY 4 - SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2023 |
|
BRING YOUR CAMERA! |
Our
final day features only a single departure event — one which might become
the Roundup's most memorable!
|
CARAVAN TO MESCAL,
AZ — AN AUTHENTIC OLD WEST MOVIE SET! |
|
![]() ![]() ![]() SUNDAY MORNING MESCAL REFRESHMENTS COURTESY OF VALLEY OF THE SUN POCI CHAPTER #107 ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Our
Sunday morning departure event is one which presents an exceedingly rare
opportunity to visit a genuine, active, authentic and legendary Old West
Movie Set, located just east of Tucson. We have coordinated the private
rental of Mescal, Arizona, site of many big-budget Hollywood films (including
Tombstone (1993), featuring Val Kilmer and Kurt Russell). Because Mescal is typically off-limits to the public and reserved exclusively for filming, we are quite fortunate to have made this special Sunday booking! Upon your arrival in Mescal at about 10:00am, we'll shoot one official "entry photo" of each POCI vehicle as it enters the property. Be sure to bring along your own camera or smartphone, too, because you'll want to snap an unlimited number of your own cool photos showing your Pontiac, Oakland, or GMC Truck staged amongst the weathered buildings and set pieces! Optional guided tours of the buildings and structures will be included as part of our group's morning activities. These tours, approximately one hour in length, will be conducted by authentically dressed actors, stuntmen, or volunteers. During your visit to Mescal, you'll be able to treat yourself to an assortment of complementary beverages and snacks courtesy of the Valley of the Sun POCI Chapter #107. This Refreshment Bar will be found inside Mescal's main Saloon. We expect to wrap up our visit and tours there by approximately High Noon, allowing you to be on your way home (or return to your hotel in Tucson if you've pre-arranged for a late Sunday p.m. check-out). IMPORTANT: Please indicate your interest and participation in this event on the Roundup's Pre-Registration Form. Your accurate information will help us better plan the food and beverage needs for this event. Prior to this activity, a specific time and location will be announced where our group will gather for the half-hour caravan to this remote site from southern Tucson. THESE DETAILS AND ANY UPDATES WILL BE CONFIRMED DURING THE SATURDAY NIGHT AWARDS BANQUET. TIP: It might be advisable for you to plan your hotel check-out PRIOR to heading out to Mescal. Plan your early breakfast, packing and check-out needs accordingly. NOTE 1: We will likely coordinate two separate caravans: One which is made up of Pontiacs that are driven to the site, and a second caravan comprised of GMC Trucks and tow rigs with show vehicles packed inside their trailers. There is plenty of room at Mescal for tow rigs to maneuver, park and unload. NOTE 2: The caravan rendezvous point(s) will see everyone gather on the south side of Tucson adjacent to Interstate 10 at a location (to be announced) where fuel, snacks and coffee are available. The drive to Mescal is approximately 30 minutes one way, mostly via Interstate 10 East. Please note that there is NO fuel available along the way. NOTE 3: Upon arrival in Mescal, a $20 entry fee (cash only) will be collected from each vehicle at the gate, regardless of the number of occupants in your vehicle. If you are attending without a POCI-branded vehicle, we suggest that you ask to "share a ride" (become a passenger) in another member's vehicle. NOTE 4: All roads to Mescal are paved until the final entry road (dirt and gravel), which extends one-half mile from the main road into the property. Yes, your car may get slightly dusty. Please use caution and drive slowly to minimize dust. NOTE 5: Mescal is NOT like a typical amusement park or theme park — there are NO restaurants or food vendors onsite. Our group WILL be supplying a selection of mid-morning snacks and beverages for our participants inside the main Saloon, OR you may bring your own refreshments. NOTE 6: Please be aware of the following additional Mescal details: Cell phone service in this area is actually good. The only restrooms available onsite are porta-potties with hand wash stations. Because the "town" is built atop a slight ridge and is very exposed to the elements, we strongly recommended that you bring a hat and a light jacket — just in case. |
